New Thoughts for a Tired Brain

I recently read this article (well, it's sort of a quiz) and it did get me thinking, and I enjoy anything that stimulates my thoughts. As I believe I have previously stated I enjoy rethinking standard memes to see if things could be redesigned to make them function better (better as I define it, and I am not a typical computer user). What I have been able to do through the years is hone my skills at creating better functionality, but I have yet to even address UI elements. I am terrible in that department of design, and that is partially because I prefer to interact with a CLI over a GUI. As I have been contemplating the desktop and how I have to interface with graphical elements (I admit I like having more screen "real estate") I have long pondered over how I would like to see things done.

The article in question poses questions (which are somewhat antagonistic) but offers reasons for the answers, and those reasons are based on one principle that I has caused me to think about the GUI all over again. I am used to interfacing with a keyboard and using a mouse when I have to, but I never thought much about the design, I just used what was given to me. Now that I can stop and think about the limitations of the screen and how a mouse interacts some new things come to light. In this day and age most products seem to sell well because of their UI. Now I have more design insights to think over and perhaps I will find a better/different way to interface with my computer to get more done.
