A Humourous Possible Future

Conversing with my wife about her email account I suggested that I configure her email client to encrypt and sign emails so we can communicate without fear of eavesdropping or people digging through our email history. I mentioned the eventuality of having our kids snoop around in our email boxes, and she mentioned hiding our plans for Christmas presents. This immediately caused me to think of an eventual future where 10 year-old little girls in pigtails will be loading up packet sniffers and readying their brute force attacks against encryption schemes to find out what Mommy and Daddy are planning for her birthday. I don't know why but this idea had me laughing long enough to have my wife wonder if I was okay. The "funny" thing is this will probably become a reality. Kids will no longer have to snoop through a closet to find out what they are getting, they can monitor browsing habits, emails, and instant messages to gain clues (or the whole information).

I don't know if I should be scared, excited, or mildly entertained.
