Mega Apple Tokyo Geek

I am, or was, about 6 months behind in my web comic reading. Yesterday I started catching up, one comic at a time. It will be a slow process as I have many comics I like to read. It quickly became obvious I had favorites, one in particular that I really wanted to get caught up in. I dove into my archives of automatically downloaded copies of MegaTokyo and was once again caught up in the drama and the art. Without fail, every time I read that comic it evokes emotions in me, and always leaves me wanting to read more. It did not take me long to devour the comic, and when it was over I sat in my chair wanting more. One of the comics posted was a guest shot, a pin-up if you will, from the talented guys at Applegeeks, and I was so impressed with the art I saw on that one page that I decided to look them up, and I'm glad I did.

One of the reasons I love comics (and animated comics) is the art. I love the smooth colors, the lines, I even love just pencil sketches with graphite shading. There are quite a few web comics out there, but I tend to only read the ones that have a mediocre story but great art. If I cannot stand the art I won't read it, no matter how good the story is; the opposite is true, no matter how poor the story I'll continue to read it if the art is good enough. These two comics are firmly at the top of my list. I love them both, and I hate them, for they feed that artistic urge in me.

I have long held a dream to one day work on a web comic, and now I know I want it to be of the artistic calibre of one of these two comics. I've tortured myself with my pitiful attempts to draw, and while "real" artists tell me all I need is practice I fear I lack the patience for it. I can however right, or at least I think I can. Reading these two comics have stirred up yet another dormant desire, and now that I have been focusing more on my writing another project is attempting to birth itself.
